There are two types of redness that I frequently see in my practice. The first is redness from small blood vessels that can show up most commonly around the nasal area. These are very nicely treated in 1-3 sessions using a laser in our office. There is no downtime associated with the procedure and you can resume your normal activities immediately afterward. Some redness in the area may persist for a few hours and some color changes of the vessels can be perceived for a few days after treatment.
Background redness can be due to a number of things but is significantly improved with Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatments. Patients often go through a series of 5 treatments spaced apart by 3-4 weeks. There is no down time associated with this light based procedure. Maintenance treatment a few times a year may be required in more extreme cases.
Is there anything I can do to help with the redness on my face? I really don’t want to take medication or creams for this.
