Dr. Jeffrey Kenkel performs lip lift surgery in Dallas and Frisco, Texas, to help people from McKinney, Prosper, Allen, and other nearby cities rejuvenate and enhance their look. He recognizes that the aging process affects the face in several ways and can change the lips. Simple lip filler injections can sometimes help sculpt the lips, adding volume and definition. If the upper lip is long, it can be shortened resulting in a shorter upper lip and better eversion with improved tooth show. This may eliminate the need for future lip filler injections.

My husband and I have both had work done, and we could not be happier. All questions were answered. From our first consultation visit to the final visit after surgery, it was professional, very considerate of our feelings, friendly and helpful at all times. Highly recommended.

Keep in mind that each patient is unique and your results may vary.

Who is a good candidate for a lip lift?

Candidates for the lip lift procedure include cosmetic surgery patients of any age who have the following concerns:

  • Bothered by a lengthy upper lip
  • Lack upper tooth show when smiling
  • Need repeat lip filler injections

While it may seem a bit aggressive to deal with the aging process of the lips, it may give even better results than can be seen with traditional facial filler agents.  This includes a shortening of the upper lip, better definition of the central pout of the upper lip (cupid’s bow), eversion of the upper lip creating more fullness and improve tooth show.

What should I expect from my consultation?

Dr. Kenkel will discuss with you your goals and then determine how best they can be achieved.  This will involve a detailed exam and analysis of the lips including measurements.  Based on this assessment and your goals a treatment plan will be outlined which includes a recommendation regarding the best treatment option for each patient.

How is a lip lift performed?

Excision of the skin is carefully designed to be hidden beneath the nose in areas of natural contour and creases. Based on measurements taken, a specific amount of skin is removed and then the resulting gap is closed with several layers of sutures. These are typically removed a week following the procedure.

How long does it take to recover from a lip lift?

Discomfort is typically mild after lip lift surgery; however, swelling can be significant at first because the tissues are quite delicate. Using cold compresses, taking pain medication, and keeping the head elevated can help minimize these concerns.

Recovery Timeline

While experiences vary, lip lift patients typically recover along the following timeline:

  • Apply cold compress: 3 days as directed
  • Return to work and nonstrenuous activities: 5 days
  • Sutures removed: 7 days
  • Keep head elevated: 2 weeks
  • Smile more natural looking: 2 weeks
  • Swelling fades: 2 to 3 weeks
  • Resume strenuous activities: 2 to 4 weeks
  • Final results: 2 to 3 months
